Summer Activities and Service Opportunities at Chapel Hill UMC for June 2026

Summer brings a unique rhythm to communities, especially when school lets out and families look for ways to stay connected and engaged. At Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, June 2026 is filled with meaningful activities that invite everyone to serve, celebrate, and grow together. Whether you want to help feed children, support families in need, or join in worship and fellowship, there are plenty of ways to get involved this summer.

Feeding Children in Our Community Every Tuesday

One of the most pressing needs during summer is ensuring children have access to nutritious meals. With cuts to federal and state funding, local schools will not provide summer meals this year. Chapel Hill UMC has stepped up to fill this gap by hosting Summer Meals for Kids every Tuesday from June 2 through August 4.

  • Time: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  • Location: Fellowship Hall at Chapel Hill UMC

  • Who can attend: All children ages 0–18, no cost

This program is now in its third year partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank and continues to grow. It provides a safe, welcoming space for children to enjoy a healthy lunch during the summer break.

How You Can Help

Volunteers are essential to the success of this program. Tasks include meal preparation, serving, and welcoming children and families. If you want to make a difference, contact Gary Gallegos to learn how to get involved.

Your time and energy can help ensure no child goes hungry this summer.

Food Pantry Support Every Tuesday Morning

Chapel Hill UMC also runs a Food Pantry that serves the first 65 families every Tuesday morning starting at 8:30 a.m. This pantry provides essential groceries to families facing food insecurity in the community.

  • Time: Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m.

  • Location: 4114 SW Loop 410 (Evandale St. entrance)

Volunteers can assist with a variety of tasks, including lifting and organizing food items. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed to help communicate with families. If mornings are difficult, you can also help with food prep on Mondays at 8:30 a.m.

This pantry is a vital resource for many families, and your help can make a big difference.

Diaper Pantry Open Twice in June

Parents of babies up to 3 years old can access the Wesley Nurse Diaper Pantry, which provides diapers free of charge. The pantry is open on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.

  • June dates: June 3 and June 17

  • Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

This service helps families with one of the most basic and costly needs for infants and toddlers. If you want to support this ministry or need more information, reach out to Gary Gallegos.

Serving at Haven for Hope on June 12

On Friday, June 12, Chapel Hill UMC will serve meals to those in need at Haven for Hope, a local shelter and resource center. This is a hands-on opportunity to connect with neighbors and offer support.

  • Carpool leaves: 3:30 p.m. from the church

  • Serving time: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • Volunteers needed: 6

If you want to join this outreach, contact Kelly Harper or Paul Collins to sign up. Serving together strengthens community bonds and provides a tangible way to live out faith through action.

Worship and Fellowship Opportunities

While service is a big part of summer at Chapel Hill UMC, the church also offers regular worship services and fellowship events to nurture spiritual growth and community connection. These gatherings provide a chance to reflect, celebrate milestones like graduations, and support one another.

Keep an eye on weekly bulletins and announcements for special summer worship times and events designed to bring everyone together.

Summer at Chapel Hill UMC is a season of action and connection. From feeding children and families to serving at shelters and gathering for worship, there are many ways to contribute your time and talents. Whether you volunteer once or every week, your involvement helps build a stronger, caring community.
